the more things change...

they say that 'the more things change, the more they stay the same'.

my personal experience has been that people are the same way. in many respects thats a pretty comforting notion. one of my best friends and roomies of nearly 4 years, tb is swinging thru the atl to help publish his last issue of david.

yesterday on im, after he had arrived, i received a message from him saying 'atlanta hasnt changed at all'. my response to him was, well, you've been gone for ONLY 5 months. what were you expecting?

perhaps its because SOOOOOO much has happened in his life - moving to nyc...with a bf...entirely new world - that somehow he expected things in atlanta to have changed at least slightly.

but atlanta has continued going at that same pace it ever has...

the atl was his home for nearly his entire life...and as we commented on over cocktails, a sunset and my front stoop - its comfortable for us. scotty, tb and i have all lived here for at least 5 yrs. for scotty and i, this - for better or worse - is home...and to a lesser extent now, its also still home for tb. that was evident when i asked him when he was going home - and he thought i was referring to gainesville, ga - and not nyc.

eventually, tb will see nyc as home...and yes, dare i say it, even nyc we gain a level of comfortablity.

the danger of comfortablity is that it can quickly slip into boredom - be it at work or where you live. that is the realm i've found myself trudging deeper and deeper into with the atl...and my job.

lukie has a song that doesnt get much play time ('cept when i request it :) ) called 'brad'. now he claims its not about me...but i take alot to heart in the song.

there's a part of the song where he says:
"we all get really bored, until we finally get off our ass."

my time's closer than its ever been before...and thats pretty exciting.

I would point out that relationships, too, can acquire a a degree of familiarity and fall victim to stagnation; but, okay, Debbie Downer!
